New House Pictures

20100423-img_5174The happy homeowners! Oh wait, you didn’t want to see us; you want to see the new house!

Ta-da!

20100423-img_5176Let’s see, what information would you like to know? It was built in 1983 and has 4 bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms, and 2000 sq ft. Oh yes, and a two car garage. I think I’m in heaven!

Here’s the front entry way. Obviously these pictures were taken before we moved our stuff in, so you don’t get to see the current chaos. Don’t feel too bad about not seeing my decorating skills. Currently it is rather simple, couch on that wall and piano against the other wall. We’ll get tricky and fancy later. Maybe.

And here’s the view looking down on our living room. You can also see a bit of our sun room through the window. We currently have all the toys in there and it is so nice to have a space for the kids to make as much mess as they’d like.

Here’s the dining room and you can see a bit of the breakfast nook.

Here’s a better new of the breakfast nook and kitchen.

20100423-img_5181And the kitchen (I seem to spend a lot of time here…).

20100423-img_5180And now for the backyard. Drum roll……

20100423-img_5103I believe this is a large Koi pond. It’s about 12 feet long, 4 feet wide, and 4 feet deep, complete with two large waterfalls.  And by the end of the month we will have ripped that sucker out!

And this is our patio. I think it has a lot of potential. There’s a raised bed in back that goes the length of the yard.

And here’s another shot of the backyard. I’m not sure what all those shade structures were for down there. It has a nice sprinkling system…

20100423-img_5115Anyway, as you can see the yard needs some fixin’ up! Okay, a lot of fixing up. But we have a rather simple plan for getting it under control. Step one: get rid of all the junk. Step two: plant lots of green stuff. What do you think?

The Middle Wife

My friend had this on her blog awhile back. Maybe I find it hilarious because I’m pregnant…but regardless, I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

The ‘Middle Wife’ by an Anonymous 2nd grade teacher. I’ve been teaching now for about fifteen years. I have two kids myself, but the best birth story I know is the one I saw in my own second grade classroom a few years back. When I was a kid, I loved show-and-tell. So I always have a few sessions with my students. It helps them get over shyness and usually, show-and-tell is pretty tame. Kids bring in pet turtles, model airplanes, pictures of fish they catch, stuff like that. And I never, ever place any boundaries or limitations on them. If they want to lug it in to school and talk about it, they’re welcome.

Well, one day this little girl, Tayah, a very bright, very outgoing kid, takes her turn and waddles up to the front of the class with a pillow stuffed under her sweater. She holds up a snapshot of an infant. ‘This is Luke, my baby brother, and I’m going to tell you about his birthday.’

‘First, Mom and Dad made him as a symbol of their love, and then Dad
put a seed in my Mom’s stomach, and Luke grew in there He ate for nine months through an umbrella cord.’

She’s standing there with her hands on the pillow, and I’m trying not to laugh and wishing I had my camcorder with me. The kids are watching her in amazement.

‘Then, about two Saturdays ago, my Mom starts saying and going, ‘Oh, Oh,Oh, Oh!’ Tayah puts a hand behind her back and groans. ‘She walked around the house for, like an hour, ‘Oh, oh, oh!’ (Now this kid is doing a hysterical duck walk and groaning.)

‘My Dad called the middle wife. She delivers babies, but she doesn’t have a sign on the car like the Domino’s man. They got my Mom to lie down in bed like this.’ (Then Tayah lies down with her back against the wall.)

‘And then, pop! My Mom had this bag of water she kept in there in case he got thirsty, and it just blew up and spilled all over the bed, like psshhheew!’(This kid has her legs spread with her little hands miming water flowing away. It was too much!)

‘Then the middle wife starts saying ‘push, push,’ and ‘breathe, breathe. They started counting, but never even got past ten. Then, all of a sudden, out comes my brother. He was covered in yucky stuff that they all said it was from Mom’s play-center, so there must be a lot of toys inside there.’

Then Tayah stood up, took a big theatrical bow and returned to her seat. I’m sure I applauded the loudest. Ever since then, when it’s show-and-tell day,I bring my camcorder, just in case another ‘Middle Wife’ comes along.

The last post featured my beloved daughter who I adore.  This one is showing some shots of Zach having a good time wherever we happen to be.  He always amazes us with his relaxed manner and adaptability.  He definitely loves our car, it seems to be the place he considers his real home.  I didn’t think we traveled that much, but it seems like a lot to him I guess…

The Race Track, Death Valley NP

We went to the Race Track in Death Valley and saw these rocks that have left tracks in this almost smooth dry lake bed.  It was neat to see and while we were looking at this particular rock Zach decided that this rock was moved here specifically for him to sit on.  Of course.  He actually liked it so much he wouldn’t move out of the picture so I could take a less cool one with out him.
